An Invaluable Gift

There was once a king who decided to distribute costly robes amongst his nobles. One of them, given to fits of sneezing, wiped his nose with the sleeves of the costly robe. An envious colleague reported the matter to the king, who went on to dismiss the nobleman from the court, saying, “Is this how you make use of the robe I gave you?”

AI-Ghazali, who was present in the king’s court, heard those words.

“The King of kings,” he said to himself, “has given me the precious robe of the human body: to what use have I put it all these years? If God takes me to account, what answer shall I give?”

It is a question we should all ask ourselves as well.
