The veil parted momentarily,
To reveal a silver white shore of peace
My mind tired, my limbs aching,
I longed to melt into its lambent nothingness.
Then on the other side I saw your face
Broken was the enchantment of that sterile peace
Thrilled with the demand you made on my soul,
I rushed to embrace the arenas of war and strife,
I found myself amidst the mayhem of battle and rapine,
And clouds of darkness that loomed menacingly.
Sometimes numb with pain, sometimes happily singing your name,
I continued to fight,
And when the fires scalded me,
I smiled joyfully because I knew that it was your hand that had
Thrust me into their flames.
