Vande Maataram in Film

India’s National Song ‘Vande Maataram’ was written as part of a novel Anandamath by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1882. The novel was banned by the British for inciting patriotic fervour amongst the masses although they could do little to curtail the use of Vande Maataram as a cry for freedom taken up by the nation. In early 50’s, the novel was made into a film; although the quality of the video is not too good, we give below a clipping of the song as was sung in the film.
